I am so sick and tired of weak men. Men who are scared of messiness, men who are scared of strength. Men who are scared of everything.
grow some. have a little faith. Make some mistakes and then sit in them for a while. Be ok with mystery. Screw up and then come back and tell me you screwed up but don't care and can't live without me.
I look too damn good in a skirt to have to wear the pants.
I am not talking to anyone specifically (although I could be, for sure), but to weak men who are hurting wonderful women with their weakness. It is a pattern that I have seen, in my own life and in the lives of women I love. and I am sick of it.
(i realize I am overgeneralizing and if anyone thinks it would be a good idea to be combative in a comment...it is not a good idea)

Wait it out
The past 24 hours have been a little on dark side for me. Not black, more of a hazy grey. I have an ache inside that is just hanging out today, making itself comfortable. This song keeps running through my head:
Patty Griffin Time Will Do The Talking lyrics
You were so cruel
I hated being your fool
So I got a little bit more mud on my face
But the years will bring a bigger scheme of things
And make a pretty memory out of my disgrace
I don't believe there is such a thing as saying too much
There are those who like to look and
Those who ain't afraid to touch
Oh baby don't you know that the
Time will do the talking
Years will do the walking
I'll just find a comfy spot and wait it out
Time will do the talking
Years will do the walking
Time will tell you baby what you can't hear now
Well we dig our heels in
And wonder who's gonna win
Who is gonna win it or wear it out
I change the lock on the door
Or learn how to take a little more
I can outrun all of the devils there
But never the doubt
Try not to throw all your money into 20/20 vision
For the world won't wait on politics or indecision
Oh baby don't you know that the
Time will do the talking
Years will do the walking
I'll just find a comfy spot and wait it out
Time will do the talking
Years will do the walking
Time will tell you baby what you can't hear now
Can you hear the voice inside you
It calls you back to where you belong
Can you see the one beside you
Who's been standin' there all along
Baby, well you were so cruel
I hated being your fool
So I got a little bit more
Mud on my face
But the years will bring
The bigger scheme of things
And make a pretty memory out of my disgrace
The time will do the talking
Years will do the walking
I'll just find a comfy spot and wait it out
Time will do the talking
Years will do the walking
Time will tell you baby what you can't hear now
Time will tell you baby what you can't hear now
Time will tell you baby what you can't hear now
Patty Griffin Time Will Do The Talking lyrics
I am tired of waiting. I have so much beauty in my life, but I want more. more, more, more. I want kisses and hugs and someone to rest my head on who will tell me that all is ok, even just for an hour or a meal.
This song gives me hope and helps me to believe when I am sure that Grace and Mercy and Love are real, but not real for me.
I just need to find my comfy spot to wait it out. Isn't that what life is? Looking for your comfy spot to wait it out until Heaven?

beauty
I read this and cried.
so, I wanted to share it. I think often about scars, both physical and emotional.
. . . a scar is never ugly. That is what the scar makers want us to think. But you and I, we must make an agreement to defy them. We must see all scars as beauty . . . Because take it from me, a scar does not form on the dying. A scar means, I survived.
In a few breaths' time I will speak some sad words to you. But you must hear them the same way we have agreed to see scars now. Sad words are just another beauty. A sad story means, this storyteller is alive. The next thing you know, something fine will happen to her, something marvelous, and then she will turn around and smile.
-taken from a review of Little Bee, a soon to be released book that I am anxious to read.

MIA
Sorry for the lack of posts here. Bikeskirt has been taking up a lot of my time, as has Bici Coop.
I am in Atlanta right now for a conference on how to start a non-profit bike shop.
and I.am.exhausted.
Hope you are all well. I do miss you all. And I miss this sweet little blog.

Hold me closer
Thanks to David Dollar for reminding me of how much I love this.
This is one of my favorite movie scenes ever, which says a lot. I get chills and grin everytime I see it.
enjoy

Adventure over safety
I was talking about my need to be more careful today when I was told to be more wise, not careful. After I gave him (Gordon, for those of you who know him!) a quizzical look, he responded by reading me this.
"Plus, you got the point of it all: You have chosen adventure over safety. This, in itself, is a rare gift" -Peter Block in the dedication of his book (which title now escapes me)
Lovely isn't it? I have never wanted to be careful. The word doesn't even feel like me. Wise, yes...careful, no.
Happy Epiphany. Now THAT is an adventure...Christ coming here to live amongst us sinners.

Just a quick question
Why does God give us hormones and desires if He is not going to let us use them??!

I'm trying to get back
Hello 2009! I can't believe that 2008 is over. It was quite a year. I can't say that I am glad it is over, but I did have some good times. As well as a lot of mourning and reading and riding.
One thing I learned toward the end of 2008 is that I need to slow down. A few trips to the ER and weeks of not eating showed me that my body holds on to stress. I need a more restful existence, which is VERY hard for me. VERY.HARD.
I am passionate about many things and hate to sit on the sidelines. Instead I jump right in, whether it is starting a Non-Profit ,participating in an online contest , or taking on a new sport and commuting 6 miles to work by bike. I think 2009 is going to be the year when I trust others to make changes and trust that God can do things without me. It is going to be hard. But I don't see much of a choice. There is only so much I can do and learning my limit is a challenge that I am ready to take on.
In that spirit, this blog may see an even longer stretch between posts. It is not going away completely, but will be a more sporadic thing. However, you can keep up with me a bit with my new blog: Bikeskirt. This will chronicle my adventures as a female bike commuter and hopefully help to create a girl bike community in Birmingham. (I know, I know...trading one blog for another is not exactly a rest...I am still learning!).
and stay tuned for updates on the recent media attention my commuting has been getting. Newspaper profiles, Commutesmart highlights, magazine profiles and possible local news stories....phew.
I hope for hope in 2009. and hope for rest and peace.
I have these same hopes for you, friends
